INNOVATION and INDUSTRY LEADERSHIP
-
Bowmanville developed and commercialized the short-cycle electric annealing
process currently used industry-wide in the production of Malleable Iron.
-
Bowmanville also initiated the move to electric induction melting from
coal-fired cupola melting in 1962.
-
Innovations include the production of Ductile Iron using the state-of-the-art
Sigmat process assuring tighter process control and higher quality Ductile
Iron, especially in thinner sections. This process also enables the Foundry to
reliably produce Austempered Ductile Iron, a material that rivals alloy steel
castings and forgings in strength and toughness.
-
The entire green sand production, molding, pouring, shakeout, and cleaning
operations have been recently replaced with the latest automated machine
technology, flexible enough to utilize all existing patterns and tooling up to
and including 16 x 20 inches and in addition providing the benefits of
precision automated technology.
TECHNICAL EXPERTISE and CUSTOMER SUPPORT
-
The Bowmanville Foundry specializes in producing smaller castings, weighing
from ounces to twenty pounds, requiring a finer surface finish and superior
cosmetic appearance.
-
A wide range of iron specifications can be provided to suit almost any
application and industry sector in the low to medium volume range.
-
Currently more than one thousand different castings are produced for several
hundred customers in volumes ranging from hundreds to hundreds of thousands.
-
Castings are delivered in any stage of production from as-cast to finished
parts including machining, plating, galvanizing, painting and insert plastic
injection molding.
